S.L. Benfica is a professional football team based in Lisbon, Portugal. Benfica was formed in Belém in 1904 as ''Sport Lisboa'', and played their first competitive match on 4 November 1906, when they entered the 1906–07 Campeonato de Lisboa. The club was renamed ''Sport Lisboa e Benfica'' in 1908 after a club merger, and moved to the Estádio da Luz in 1954. Since their first competitive match, more than 750 players have made a competitive first-team appearance for the club, of whom almost 130 players have made at least 100 appearances; about 250 made at least 25 appearances, both are listed below, separately. Benfica's record appearance-maker is Nené, who made 575 appearances over the course of his career; the second player with more appearances is António Veloso with 538.
